Cybertruck Buyers: What March 2026's Overhaul Means
Tesla overhauled both its referral and loyalty programs in March 2026. I've already covered the headline change — Model S and X losing the referral benefit entirely (here) — but two other details from that overhaul matter specifically if you're ordering a Cybertruck, and I haven't seen them spelled out together anywhere. This note fills that gap.
What changed, confirmed
- Model S and Model X were removed from the referral-eligible vehicle list — no buyer benefit on either.
- The referrer reward stayed at $250 in Tesla Credits per successful referral.
- Tesla's separate loyalty discount on premium vehicles was cut from $1,000 to $500.
- Referral and loyalty credits now expire 12 months after their Grant Date.

The loyalty discount cut — does it touch Cybertruck?
The loyalty discount is a different program from the referral: it's Tesla's repeat-owner incentive, historically worth up to $1,000 on premium vehicles, now reported at $500. Whether "premium vehicles" includes Cybertruck's Premium AWD and Cyberbeast trims isn't something I can confirm from the sources I have — Tesla hasn't published a definitive premium-vehicle list I can point you to, so if you're a returning owner cross-shopping a Cybertruck, ask your delivery advisor directly whether the current loyalty amount applies to your configuration before you count on it. What I can confirm: the loyalty discount and the referral benefit are separate line items — you don't have to choose between them, and eligibility for one doesn't affect the other.
The 12-month credit expiry — this one's important
This is the change I'd flag hardest for Cybertruck buyers: referral and loyalty credits granted through Tesla's programs now expire 12 months after the Grant Date. If you're the referrer earning $250 in Tesla Credits from a friend's Cybertruck order, that credit is on a clock — spend it (Supercharging, upgrades, merchandise, per Tesla's own program terms) within a year of the grant, or it's gone. This isn't something I used to have to tell readers to track; now it is.
What this means if you're ordering a Cybertruck on a referral
As a buyer, nothing changed for you directly: Cybertruck Premium AWD and Cyberbeast remain eligible for the standard 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial (Dual Motor AWD is still excluded), attached the same way — link first, then configure, then confirm it's in your order summary before you pay. The overhaul's real impact falls on the referrer side: if you're the friend or family member who shared the code, put a reminder on your calendar for twelve months out from the grant date, so it doesn't quietly expire unused.

Why I'm separating "confirmed" from "context" so carefully here
This is one of those updates where it would be easy to blur an official change together with a reasonable guess and present both as fact. I don't want to do that on a page a Cybertruck buyer might use to plan an order. The removal of Model S/X, the $250 referrer reward, the loyalty cut to $500, and the 12-month credit expiry are all documented in Tesla's own program page or the reporting I've cited below. Whether Cybertruck counts toward the "premium vehicle" loyalty tier is not documented anywhere I can point to — so I'm flagging it as an open question for your delivery advisor, not answering it for you. That distinction is the whole reason I keep a dated note like this instead of a static claim.
