I own a Model Y, not a Cybertruck, so I want to be upfront about that here rather than pretend first-hand experience I don't have. What follows is checked directly against Tesla's referral program and the same primary sources I cite everywhere else on this site — not guesswork.
The trim distinction that actually matters
Cybertruck eligibility isn't all-or-nothing — it depends on trim. Premium AWD and Cyberbeast qualify for the standard referral reward; Dual Motor AWD is excluded, the same way Model S and Model X are excluded entirely. What an eligible Cybertruck buyer gets

Why Dual Motor AWD is the exception
Tesla hasn't published a detailed rationale for excluding the Dual Motor AWD trim specifically, and I'm not going to guess at one it hasn't stated. What's confirmed is the outcome: applying a referral to a Dual Motor AWD order attaches the code to your account but doesn't add the FSD trial, because that trim sits outside the program's eligible list. If you're cross-shopping Cybertruck trims and a referral factors into your decision at all, that's the detail to check before you configure, not after.
Applying it the same way as any other model
The mechanics don't change for Cybertruck: open the referral link before you configure, build the truck, and confirm the referral line on the order review screen before you pay. If you're deciding between Cybertruck trims
A referral shouldn't be the deciding factor between Premium AWD, Cyberbeast, and Dual Motor AWD — the trims differ a lot more in price and drivetrain than in whatever a $297 FSD trial is worth. But if you're already leaning toward an eligible trim, there's no reason to leave the trial on the table: it costs nothing and takes one click before you start configuring.
